2006 Reunion recap letter from Lori & Tom

Dear Family,

Several months have passed since the Scorup Family Reunion. I am sending some souvenirs and other family information. Enclosed are: 1) A picture CD, 2) Family bandannas (if you weren’t there), 3) A group photo, 4) Horseback riding picture (for those that participated), 5) Family introductions & updates (Carl’s is on CD), 6) Reunion financial records, 7) Future reunion plans decided at family meeting, 8) Scorup Family Directory. A DVD being put together by Sara and will be available later. (Thanks to Ginny & Carl for making CD's, printing photos, and compiling the directory. Also -- if you haven't seen it yet, check out scorupfamily.com, our new family website created by Ginny.)

Notes from family meeting 8/4/2006

  1. It was unanimous that we continue holding the Scorup Family Reunion every two years.
  2. The format will change from what it has been. The official group meeting for all Scorup descendants will be held for one day only (Saturday). It is suggested that each Scorup family branch organize their own gathering prior to the large Saturday affair. If any siblings wish to coordinate plans with other family(ies), that will be up to them. The reason for the changes is to lessen the burden on the coordinator and hopefully to increase participation.
  3. It was mentioned that feeding such a large group is one of the biggest challenges and suggested that future meals should be either potluck or catered.
  4. The location should be a family friendly with other vacation attractions nearby, thus making it easy to combine family vacation with family reunion.
  5. After extensive discussion on this matter, it was decided the dues structure will be as follows:
    • $20 per year for every family (includes Original 9, their children, their children, etc.) This will be collected annually, in March or April.
    • Students are not obligated to pay.
    • Funds will be used to maintain a family web site (estimated cost $75 per year), miscellaneous costs (i.e. printing, supplies, postage), and for reunion. If needed, additional funds may be collected as a per person registration fee for those family members who plan to attend.
  6. The website will be designed by Ginny and its estimated completion is mid-November. We hope this will be a valuable tool for staying in touch better and being aware of family announcements or emergencies.
  7. The group present suggested that they would like T-shirts in the future.
  8. The auction is still supported. (A regular auction vs. silent auction would likely bring in more money.)
  9. The need for an ongoing Treasurer was discussed. Lori will continue to serve in this capacity. The bank account will remain with her instead of moving around from family to family.
  10. The next reunion will be held in 2008, with the Bob Crowley family in charge of choosing a location, planning, and making assignments.

Other individual comments:

  • I’ve only seen my sister for 1 hour and she’s been here for a day and a half.
  • Evening entertainment was awesome.
  • Evening events were scheduled too long for small children.
  • For food: sandwiches & chips for lunch (make your own), cater dinners.
  • Person responsible for reunion should be determined at each reunion.
  • Shouldn’t be so organized.
  • July and August best times.
  • Not so scheduled. Lots of free time.
  • Keep them simple.
  • RE dues: If I want to attend a specific reunion, then I would expect to pay for it.
  • I need to get my kids to plan it into their summers.

Suggested locations:

  • Afton,Wyoming; Oceanside, California; Arizona; Nevada (Las Vegas or Reno); National Parks; Yellowstone; Fish Lake; Bear Lake; St. George.
