Featured Family - Kim & Rob

Both of us work for the Clark County Public Defender’s Office as Criminal Investigators.  Although we defend indigent people accused of sometimes heinous crimes, we work with a wonderful group of people who dedicate their lives to defending our Constitutional rights.  Sometimes, if we’re lucky, we get to help falsely accused people hear the words “Not Guilty” at the end of the day.  The job is never boring. Our evenings and weekends are filled with family and sporting events.

Robert -- is an awesome young man who just recently turned 19 and is attending the College of Southern Nevada, majoring in Criminal Justice.  He works part time at the Clark County Juvenile Public Defenders Office as a Document Runner.  He has a steady girlfriend named Larynn.  He is learning about becoming a responsible adult and hopefully having a little bit of fun in the process!

LaceLace -- is a force to be reckoned with.  She is 15 years old.  She is a Freshman at Green Valley High School and regularly brings home good grades, despite a very demanding Softball schedule as a Left-fielder with her Travel Softball Team, the Las Vegas 808 Konnexion.  Her team is the reigning Nevada State Champions, but this year, they have slowed down a little bit because the girls are all in high school now.  The GVHS Softball season is just beginning and Lace has prospects of playing on the Varsity team as a Freshman this spring.  Lace also enjoys writing and served on the journalism staff at her school last year as a sports reporter.

AllenAllen -- at 13 is becoming an outstanding young man.  He is still playing football, although he sat out most of last season due to a foot injury.  His team, the Liberty Renegades, took first place in their division last fall.  He is in eighth grade but has already started working out with the football team at Green Valley High School, which he will attend next year.  Allen has discovered a new talent this past year.  He has become a member of an elite Track and Field team; the Las Vegas Lightning. His events are the Shotput and Discus throw.  In his first season last year, he qualified for the National Junior Olympics held in Walnut, California.  We were sadly unable to attend due to prior obligations with Lace’s Softball team.  Allen currently has the great fortune and honor of being coached by Olympian John Powell in these events.  We are just beginning the 2008 USA Track and Field season and are very excited to see his progress.   If he qualifies, we’ll be attending the Junior Olympics in Omaha, Nebraska this year.

SarahSarah -- at 9 (almost 10, if you ask her) is a fireball of energy and love.  She is regularly on the Honor Roll at school and is an excellent writer.  She plays on a “B” softball team (one level from a Travel Ball team) and has been taking pitching lessons the last few months.  Her team, The Revolution, is about to begin their spring season and she hopes to pitch in a few games.  She also plays Second Base and Centerfield.  Sarah has also found a new talent this past year.  Her P.E. teacher told us she could run very fast.  He is actually the person who introduced our family to the Las Vegas Lightning coach.  Sarah is now a member of the team and runs the 400 meter, 800 meter, and 1500 meter races.  She won several medals in her first season and we can’t wait to see how she does in this second season which is just beginning.  She may also be competing in the National Junior Olympics in Omaha, Nebraska this year.

To keep everybody up-to-date on our families we thought we would try a "Featured Family" column. This column is an excellent place to share what you and your family have been up to. Like where you are living, how you got there, what your kids doing, family pictures, sports pictures, whatever you would like to share. [Remember the info is on the web though.] It would be nice to have a new family every month or so.

Sign up by sending an when you can be the "Featured Family".
