He was the son of Peter Christian Scorup and Rosa Winterton.
Ruth enjoyed swimming at the power plant reservoir. She enjoyed playing hide and seek with her Dad and playing games. They climbed in trees and on rocks. She took piano lessons. Mom loved to read and she did all the cooking while her sister Marge did the cleaning. They got a porcelain doll at Christmas which they enjoyed playing with. Ruth was in the Pep Club in high school and enjoyed being in plays and operettas. She was the Salutatorian and the Editor of the school paper. Later in her life in Washington, she wrote for the Othello Outlook. She also was in a play in Othello with the Sage Hens, a club she belonged to.
Ruth went to the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City for a time. She worked as a Secretary for a school in Vancouver, WA

Robert was a tall handsome man with curly dark hair. Robert left home at an early age to seek employment. He lived in Denver and Salt Lake. He had poor health and decided that a warmer climate might help him. He traveled to Moab where the arthritis in his back improved and he was able to enjoy life without pain. He worked as a clerk in the Miller department store where he later became manager and met and married Maude Miller. They had four children. He later opened his own station and lunchroom along with Maude. He was a prominent citizen and worked constantly to improve the community. He enjoyed fishing with his children and going on picnics.
Sarah belonged to the literary club and enjoyed playing bridge and dancing. She was an excellent cook and hard worker. They had a big garden and canned a lot of food. When she was young she worked in the fruit ranch of her father. She must have been a very persuasive person as she was always picked by her sisters to talk to their dad if they wanted to go to a dance or something. She memorized and recited poems. Remember “Little Orphan Annie”?

5. Elizabeth JACKSON, born 17 Jan 1851 in Manchester, Lancs, England; died 18 Mar 1934 in Orangeville, Emery, UT. She was the daughter of 10. Thomas JACKSON and 11. Alice CROMPTON.
At the age of 11 John Kirkwood Reid crossed the plains and drove an ox team. He served in the Black Hawk war when he was 15 years old. John married Elizabeth in 1968 and they moved to Manti in 1878 they moved to Castle Valley, which is now Orangeville, UT. It was a desolate place and they suffered many hardships. He was active in politics and operated a store for 30 years. He became an attorney at 46. He opened the first grist mill and one of the first saw mills in Emery County. He opened coal beds and built irrigation canals. He had 15 children.
Elizabeth came to Utah in 1856. They crossed the plains by ox team. She was an excellent seamstress and cook. When they moved to Castle Dale it was very desolate with little vegetation. They were unhappy to leave Manti but heeded the call of the prophet. They moved in to a dugout along the creek. Once while John was gone they had a cloudburst. The water came gushing into the dugout. Elizabeth put all the chairs up on the table and everything perishable on top also. She stuck the kids up on the chairs and went out in the pouring rain to divert the water. They were rescued by a stranger who built a dike to divert the water. She was very petite and 5 ft. tall. She enjoyed working in her flowers, making quilts and doing needlework.

When Joseph Phillip Miller was a child he and his family moved to Steubenville Ohio where he lived until he was 18. He was on his way to California and was persuaded to go to Moab where he met Alice. They dated for two years and were married. He was active in many community affairs. He served 2 times in the State legislature and helped to build important roads and bridges for the area. He owned a fruit ranch and spent 30 years as an orchardist. He won many national and state honors with his fruit. In 1910 he grew a peach measuring 12 inches in circumference.
Alice was the youngest daughter. When she was a young lady of 15 years, she was working for Arthur Taylor and his wife. Joseph Miller came to the farm and began to work and their romance began. After 2 years they were married. They had nine children.

15. Sarah Jane BLAZZARD, born 14 Oct 1848 at Winter Quarters, Nebraska.
Sarah came to Salt Lake City in 1851. They pulled handcarts across the plains. She married Walden Kinnison. She was midwife for over 40 years and also had cures for everything else that ailed people. A favorite recipe was Linament: Made from turpentine (oil from pine trees), egg whites, kerosene, and of course, a little peppermint for smell. (How would you like to use that?) She milked cows, carded wool, and planed and raised her own food and flowers, spices and medicines. She had 4 children. Her husband died and she married Randolph Stewart a year later. They moved to Moab in 1881. She walked all the way from Huntington to Moab and her feet were badly blistered. She was a great cook and always willing to share what she had with others.
