Cousins Dennis & Patti Fairbourn visit Skaarup farm in Denmark

Dennis & PattiDennis is our 2nd cousin; he and his wife Patti live in Orangevale, CA.
Dennis is the son of Rulon Rhodes Fairbourn & Pearl "Allie" Alberta Fairbourn.
Allie is the daughter of John Albert Scorup & Emma Theodora Bayles.
John Albert and Peter Christian are brothers and of course, Peter is P.Carl's dad.

In August, Patti started looking for Scorup family genealogy information on the internet and found Carl; we've been emailing since. We've been sharing pictures and information back and forth. They are really interested in the Scorup family and genealogy and would love to correspond with any and all in the family. Patti's email is: topatti @ gmail.com (without spaces).

To the right is a picture of Dennis & Patti taken in 2001. Below is the story and pictures she and Dennis took when they went to the Skaarup Garr in Denmark in 1984.

In 1984 Dennis and I visited the farm in Denmark where Christian CHRISTENSEN worked before he emigrated to the USA. It is "Skaarup Gaar" in Danish, Gaar means farm or something like that. You know how to pronounce Skaarup and gaar is like car, only with a g.

It is a bacteria free hog ranch now. The exisiting home as been added onto (it's very large) and only the cellar is the same as it would have been 400 years ago.  It has a lovely thatch roof, as is typical in Denmark. We were brave enough to go to the door and explain our visit and ask if we could walk around to look at the yard, gardens, etc. The current owner (it is still in the same family) was the most delightful lady and invitied us in, showed us the whole house and talked about the history she knew (it is her side of the family that has lived there through the years). Much of the furniture is museum worthy! She took us into the cellar as well.

She served us a wonderful red pudding called Rodgrod med flode (those o's are with a slash through them). It translates to red current fruit with cream.  Dennis speaks Danish due to having lived the for 2-1/2 years while serving his mission for the church. Then we spent about an hour walking the grounds.  It is an extremely $uccessful business and included an indoor pool, large greenhouse, with gardener and a small lake in the rear.
